The gift of love surpasses all others.

Love brings enlightenment to the heart. As Job says: “We are all cloaked in darkness.” Indeed, we often do not know what to do or what to wish for, but love teaches everything that is needed for salvation: “His spirit teaches you all things.” This is because where there is love, there is the Holy Spirit, who knows everything and will guide us on the right path.

Although all gifts come from the Father of lights, this gift, namely the gift of love, surpasses all others. All other gifts can be possessed by a person even without love and without the Holy Spirit. But with love, one necessarily has the Holy Spirit as well.
