True disciples of Carmel are to be largely inwardly gathered, so that in the deepest recesses of their souls they may find God and meet with Him. There God comes to meet them. He will grow in them through the meditations they dedicate to Him, through the love they give Him. He will grow in the deepest hiddenness of their being, until He can no longer be hidden and until He Himself no longer wishes to remain hidden within them.
(Titus Brandsma /1881–1942/, The Heritage of the Prophet)
