Pope Francis will consecrate the world to the Immaculate Heart of the Virgin Mary.

Statue of Our Lady of FatimaOctober 13, 2013 was declared by Pope Francis as the Day of Marian devotion. On this day, a statue of Our Lady will be brought from Fatima to Rome, before which the Holy Father wishes to consecrate the world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

The Marian statue has left Fatima twice in the past, during the pontificate of John Paul II. The first time was on March 24, 1984, when John Paul II also consecrated the world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and the second time was on October 8, 2000, when John Paul II consecrated the upcoming millennium to the Blessed Mother of God. Three popes have carried out this consecration of the world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary in various circumstances over the last 70 years. Sister Lucia, the visionary from Fatima, remarked in one interview that the consecration of the world carried out in 1942 by Pope Pius XII helped end World War II. Many believe that the consecration made by John Paul II in 1984 contributed to the collapse of Soviet communism. This is undoubtedly an event of great spiritual significance.

A few weeks ago, we experienced the power of communal prayer with Pope Francis for peace in Syria. Civil media, in this context, may speak of the outstanding abilities of Russian and American diplomats, but the spiritual impact of the fast and prayers for peace on September 7 is undeniable. Let us join Pope Francis once again. We could prepare for this re-consecration of the world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary with prayer, possibly through a nine-day novena to Mary. If you decide to pray one of the Marian novenas before this consecration, the first day of this novena falls on Friday, October 4. The victory of good over evil is not primarily a feat of human abilities. It is a spiritual battle that is won with spiritual weapons.
