Wednesday, January 26 – Day of Prayer for Peace

Pope Francis declared Wednesday, January 26, a day of prayer for peace. The announcement came at the end of the Angelus prayer on the third Sunday of the Word of God, January 23, 2022:

“With concern, I watch the growing tension that threatens to deal a new blow to peace in Ukraine and undermine security on the European continent, which would have even wider repercussions. I warmly invite all people of goodwill to pray to Almighty God, that every political action and initiative may serve human brotherhood, rather than partisan interests. Whoever pursues their own goals at the expense of others despises their own human vocation, for we are all created as brothers. For this reason, and in light of the current tensions, I propose that next Wednesday, January 26, be a day of prayer for peace.”
