It is essential that you be strong and manly in spirit, so that you can resist fear and dejection. For all this often arises from a natural disposition, but sometimes it comes from the devil, or it is caused by external factors. But wherever fear and dejection may originate, strive to banish them. If you pay attention to this sadness, the evil that brings sorrow will not diminish, but rather gain strength.
Therefore, if you feel struck by some sadness when you have to perform some duty for the glory of God, it must not prevent you from going – just go gladly and willingly and do not look at your reluctance. And always try, as much as you can, to rejoice in the Lord and engage in things that are not only spiritual but also good and holy, even when you are beset by sadness. And be sure that your soul will greatly benefit from this, for the sweetest Jesus sends us these hardships so that He may then bless us even more with His gifts.
