God's time

Wilfrid Stinissen

How wonderful it is that God did not create time as an infinitely long, monotonous line. God's time is not constantly the same; there is not always the same temperature, it is not always equally warm or dark, nor is it always summer or always winter.

Humans are inclined to eliminate and equalize all differences. Instead of working during the day and resting at night, we have managed to disrupt the rhythm of nature and our own nature, making no distinction between day and night.

Also, in terms of our spiritual development, we would wish to make progress just as quickly. However, the reality is not such. In the way that God governs the passage of time on both material and spiritual levels, there is a constant change.

The fact that today's person seeks so much artificially constructed change, always chasing something else, might stem from having lost a sense of the natural rhythm of God's time.

God's time has a rhythm, the essence of which is death and resurrection. Everything begins, everything dies, and again everything begins. Nothing is completed once and for all, and nothing develops along an evenly rising curve. Time contains strong and weak moments. There are times when nothing special happens, and again times when something completely new begins.

If you have the gift to understand and respect this rhythm and to submit to it without resistance and objection, then God gives you a glimpse of the deep harmony for which you were created.
