How He likes it, not how we like it.

Basically, only this is correct: to dedicate your life to God, as He wants, and not as we would like. He instills in us a desire for solitude and silence – and precisely this solitude and silence are denied to us. Is it a cruel game with us? Or are the external circumstances of our life not what He would want?

No, no! Even though our desire is not fulfilled in the way we would fully wish, it is not in vain. It protects our actions from becoming just activity for activity's sake. It gives our actions the right direction and inner legitimacy. It prevents our work from becoming merely a mechanical fulfillment of duties, turning it into an important means to surrender to Christ, so that He may act in us and through us as He pleases, and not as we would like. Woe to active people who, in all that life brings, do not have within them this beautiful unrest that evokes in the depths of the soul a longing for silence and solitude.
