Mystyczne połączenie z Marią (część 20)

Sister Mary of St. Therese (1623–1677), Carmelite tertiary

(conclusion)

XXVII. The spirit of love for the beloved Mother acts and works so innocently that a person has qualities, thinks, and behaves like a two- or three-year-old child. My spirit turns variously and spontaneously towards this exceedingly sweet Mother in the way described in the fourth treatise of the Introduction. (This refers to the writings of Fr. Michael of St. Augustine, Introductio in terram Carmeli). Her motherly lap is often a refuge and a place of peace for me. There I find great satisfaction, strength, and comfort, which is a refreshing and renewal of spirit and nature. The spirit of love approaches her very spontaneously, innocently, and intimately, drawn and invited by her to suckle from her motherly breast, just like a small and innocent child. And thus I cling to them with such tender love and delightful tasting, as if it were really happening. However, we must not think that it truly happens. The spirit of love acts differently and with various intentions.

Whatever the case may be, since the feast of her Assumption, this spirit of tender love for the dear Mother is always within me. Her most holy name is so sweet on my lips that I would gladly lick my lips for that sweetness and almost insatiably I would repeat: “Maria, Maria, my dear and gracious Mother…,” with diverse surges of love, even when I endure some suffering, torment, and anguish in body and spirit. That motherly lap is for me a refreshment, a comfort, and a healing of all my inner and outer ailments, anxieties, struggles, etc. and there I forget all that and lay it aside like a carefree child who thinks of nothing else but to continually enjoy this most loveable lap and its motherly tenderness.
