Mystyczne połączenie z Marią (część 1)

Besides the usual articles, we want to publish the pamphlet Mystical Connection with Mary in installments, the first part of which is now before you.

Something about the author

Sister Marie of Saint Teresa (*1623 – †1677) is a mystic of the highest significance. In the Carmelite tradition, she can be compared to Saint Teresa and Maria Magdalena de Pazzi.

Throughout her life, she underwent many severe trials through which she received the greatest mystical graces. She reached the highest degrees of mystical connection with Mary and perfectly described them as the first.

Her spiritual guide for 31 years was Father Michael of Saint Augustine. At his special request, she provided him with a monthly report on her life and graces received. By his command, she also wrote her autobiography.

According to the mentioned reports, Father Michael published his theological treatise De vita Mariae formi et mariana in Maria propter Mariam in 1669. After Sister Marie's death, he also published her biography. Both were then translated from Flemish into Latin with the help of his fellow brothers.

We translate several reports from the Latin text, filled with deep connection to Mary and mutual love. The translation is again quite literal to preserve the freshness of the old testimony.

I. God reveals Himself to me as all-penetrating, connected with everything, and also unified with His creatures, from the smallest to the largest, and with the noble as well as the humble. I even have the impression that all of us, including myself, merge with Him. It is hard to express what I recognize, see, experience, and undergo in this. Regarding love and other inner workings – divine illuminations, knowledge, and other supernatural movements – it seems to me that they are drawn into the unity of this divine One and merge with Him. However, even though these things sometimes abundantly flow into the soul, it is not pulled outside of unity by them. On the contrary, it sees, recognizes, and experiences this divine One in them all in a mystical and exalted way.

In the same way, I see, honor, love, and ask in this One, in this mirror of divine unity, also the Mother worthy of all our love. I see her there in unity with this divine mirror, or nameless essence.

When I kneel before her image and ask her for some souls, for the needs of the homeland, or something else that urges me, my inner gaze is fixed on this mirror, in which the lovable Mother is enclosed and connected with all others. At that moment, I immediately penetrate the outer image without fixating on anything bodily and draw everything into the spirit.

Written in the year 1657

II. My love for Jesus and his and my beloved Mother is as tender as possible. It leads me into a very intimate relationship with my beloved Jesus, and I try to behave as a tenderly loving fiancée towards her beloved fiancé. His actions towards me are also very loving.

Something similar occurs between me and my loving Mother. It seems to me that she has accepted me as her own daughter and wants to teach me on the path of perfection and purity of spirit, so that I may please my beloved Jesus even more. She guides me in love towards Jesus and in loving contact with Him.

Sometimes I experience a tangible sweetness, satisfaction for both nature and spirit, when I pronounce the most holy names Jesus and Mary with my lips, or when I think of them in my heart. I often keep repeating this: Jesus, my beloved Jesus, my only darling, Jesus, my life and my everything; Mary, sweet Virgin Mary, my dearest mother. I feel that these sweetest and holiest names almost constantly dance in my mind and heart. I am almost insatiably occupied with them, uttering them and dedicating myself to them with the most tender respectful and innocent love.

This does not always occur with fully spoken and complete words. Often they are only half-uttered, and the spirit then falls into deep solitary peace and rests in the love of Jesus's embrace or Mary's lap. Usually, I withdraw from my senses during this.

I believe my dearest Mother is not satisfied only by drawing me into her continuous love and into the purest, most faithful, and tenderest love for Jesus, and that she has accepted me as her daughter. Moreover, I feel her demand that I also love her dearest fiancé, Saint Joseph, and she herself instills love for him into my heart. My inner dialogue then turns to this whole most holy earthly trio, these three most holy persons, with intuitive simplicity and spiritual unity. They are united in my spirit and love. Jesus, as my most beloved lover, Mary, as the dearest and worthy of all love Mother, and Saint Joseph, as my dearest and most beloved father. I hope that precisely through him I will receive such special help and assistance in everything as Saint Teresa received.
